National Poetry Month day 23

 Honey Bees

i’m not allergic to honey bees

because they don’t sting the same

i don’t like honey

so i don’t have a need

for the one thing they make

with no crossed paths

except for my garden

i start every spring

it grabs their attention by summer

when the flowers have bloomed

and the vegetables are ready to be picked

and we live in unison again  

for a little while

i’m not allergic to them

like other bees

but i have no need for them

and they have no need for me

outside of my garden.

this isn’t about bees.
