1st day of National Poetry Month
Stardust
iron is only naturally formed and forged from the core of dying stars
a death needed to breath new life
your wrist; it's veins
(whether more blue or green
for i've yet to hold them
in my own two hands)
the blood flowing through them
contains a substance called hemoglobin,
a protein which has four iron atoms
incorporated into its structure
your pulse
it seems
to already know the truth of your very existence
you are my favorite form of poetry
you are the most beautiful prose or sonnet
i could never think of
you have the same few atoms as the stars in the night sky
and your words leave traces of stardust .
